Vabre, the mountain village

Nestling at the confluence of two steep-sided valleys, this village has managed to preserve its natural, authentic character.
Vabre has always been a place of refuge, and is part of the « Towns and Villages of the Righteous of France » network.
Vabre also boasts a rich heritage, including a belfry, timber-framed houses, the Clauzel garden, the wash-house circuit, the « costarelle » (a typical street linking the upper and lower parts of the village) and its famous temple (dating back to 1802, it is one of the largest in the region and it will charm you with its elegant simplicity).

With its mountain and granite landscape, sparse hamlets and typical local architecture (slate and stone), Fontrieu is a vast municipality with many faces:

A village built around granite:
There are many beautiful walks here where you can meet these granite giants, such as in Peyremourou or in the Montagnol forest.

A water village:
This is where the source of the mineral water from the Fontaine de la Reine Frédégonde and the Tarnaise spring water (at Castelnau de Brassac) gushes out at over 1,000 metres.
Numerous rivers also flow through the municipality, including the Agout river.

A rich heritage
The Castle of Ferrières, the Oulliats convent, the Museum of Protestantism, from the Reformation to Secularism, the Pierre Plantée, the Ferrières temple, the Soulègre church…
